Billy Myles-Berkouwer is a British-Dutch contemporary artist based in Suffolk, UK. (B. 1995)
Billy Myles-Berkouwer's practice encompasses painting, digital imaging, programming and theoretical research.
He has had solo exhibitions in San Jose, Costa Rica and Sudbury Suffolk, UK.
He also completed a BA in Philosophy and Politics at the University of Brighton.
Digital imaging is a source of inspiration for the development of novel painting techniques and aesthetics in Berkouwer’s work.
He has conceptualised the blending of physical-traditional and virtual-contemporary disciplines through Franco Berardi’s notion of the ‘Cognitariat’.
This interpretation of Berardi’s writing proposes that conjoining physical and virtual artistic processes is to reflect the experience of living and working in a digitised world.
Research into popular music, film, celebrity and internet culture provides a window for Berkouwer to study the subjectivation of individuals in the context of semio-capitalism.
It is this reality that Berkouwer expresses and critiques within his current work, with a particular interest in how cultural forms shape individual and collective desires.
